Fantastic Four Facial Hair Is Back!
Johnny Storm’s mustache survived the relaunch.
Marvel’s new Fantastic Four #1, written by the fantastic Ryan North with art by the legendary Humberto Ramos, is a great place to jump in! Fantastic four should be a vitamin for your imagination and that is exactly what it has been during this incredible run by North.
In a clear sign that some elements of Marvel continuity are sacred, Johnny Storm appears with the same fireproof mustache he’s been rocking in recent issues, and it’s still glorious.
Meanwhile, fans of the Thing’s beard—first seen in previous comic arcs—will be happy to know it’s alive and well in the trailer for the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. And Mr. Fantastic? He may not be bearded in this comic, but his beard legacy is strong, having gone viral in earlier runs. And speaking of legacies, we now officially know that Reed Richards is canonically immune to lice. Yes, it’s mentioned in this first issue.
As the First Family makes their move on Dr. Doom he transports our heroes to different points in time letting the Fantastic Four enact their plan for such an occurrence! Our team broken up gives us the chance or individual adventures before they are reunited thanks to the forementioned plan of the team writing on a pre-selected rock their date in time for rescue. Despite this solid plan we see them run into a problem I am looking forward to seeing solved next issue! Ramos is given plenty to do with great mustaches to draw, interesting uses of Mr. Fantastics power and setting the stage for the different time periods our four heroes see themselves thrown into.
In short: Fantastic Four is back. And so is the facial hair discourse.
